Upcoming: A Photo by Sara Staker

Artist Statement

My inspiration for this piece was a vintage, green, velvet dress. This dress was owned by my grandmother in the late 60's. About two weeks before I took these photos, she passed away from covid-19. When we were preparing for the shoot, we came down the stairs to my mom. She saw that Audrey was wearing the dress and started crying. Then, she proceeded to FaceTime my aunt to show her (at the time I was kind of in awe, my mom's crying in front of my friends; however, it was a very tender moment). I wanted to experiment with my style so I used one of those mesh jewelry bags to create the hazy effect. The photos turned out beautifully.
